Puppy questionsQ: We recently rescued an abandond puppy from the railroad tracks near our home and i recently found tiny white moving things in his stool and i would like to know if he got this from the bad flea infestation from his couple days being tied up and if it is possible to be spead to us and to our cats? A: Most likely did get harmless tapeworms from flea infestation. not much of any risk to you and not that contagious for cats but keep eye on their stools for similar things. can try 1800petmeds tapeworm medicine or prescription droncit or cestex to treat

Continue frontline or get advantage?Q: Molly is a medium sized dog (60 lbs.) that has been on frontline for 2 years. the last box i got (containing 3 applications) seemed to not work as well as the previous. should i switch over to advantage? i was planning on getting her dipped before applying a flea treatment, but i'm not sure if i should switch brands. A: You are probably experiencing a heavy flea year. remember the frontline and advantage will kill the fleas given a reasonable period of time. they are not repellants.

RevolutionQ: Fda has requested to recall proheart6 injectable heartworm product on sept. 3,2004. my dog just received his shot 2 days ago. i want to change his heartworm meds. i also have been using advantagek9 for fleas. would this be a could idea to switch to revolution and when. A: You are correct that fda has issued a recall to veterinarians for existing stocks of proheart. however, the fact that your dog received his shot 2 days ago, you should not do anything for 6 months. at that time, you can use an alternate heartworm medication.

Repelling misquito-product/fear allergyQ: I ordered 6 months of biospot for both of my dogs for flea control and misquito repellent for fear of west nile virus. bio spot appears to irritate them as they are still scratching. 1) do you refund on products not used? 2) does anything that you would personally recommend do both of these things? the fleas need immediate control so they don't spread to my indoor cats. i used to use advantage, which was great, but i don't think it repells misquitoes. please help! A: All of our products are guaranteed.|for immediate control of adult fleas you can use "capstar". the "advantix" is a product to control fleas and mosquitos
Shop for: advantage, advantix, capstar

Poisoning from flea medicationQ: My lab ingested a small amount of the cat's flea medication. what should we do, other than watch her behavior? thanks. A: That is actually all you can do. take to vet if any digestive signs, excess drooling or change in neurologic status
What product should i use?Q: I have a chihuahua, approx. 4 lb. i have used advantage in the past but it is no longer working to keep the fleas at bay. i switched to frontline at the recommendation of my local pet store. it helped but again did not keep her flea-free. what product should i use? i live in florida and there is a large flea population in my neighborhood...lots of dogs and cats. A: I live in florida too and i find the frontline plus (not the topspot which is available in pet stores) is quite effective. you will need to combine this with treatments of both the indoor and outdoor environments.

Mixing of meds reactionsQ: My pom is 6lbs and is 11yrs old. he has been diagnosed with heart problems and will be on 2 different meds the rest of his life. he is also on antibiotics for dental problems which hopefully will be taken care of next week. my question is that i want to bathe him with a shampoo that has growth inhibators to break the flea cycle...will it be ok to do so with the meds he's on? thank you A: Use any flea shampoo that is pyethrin based. adams makes nice line
Frontline recommendationQ: Frontline does not work well for my dog because the pest must bite in order to act. once the pest has bitten, it's too little too late because the bite itself causes so irritation to his skin that he sometimes needs to be treated for that. what then would be the recommendation? A: Actually frontline does not require the flea to bite to work. the active ingredient is in the oils in the coat. simply coming in contact with the fur should kill the flea or tick.
