Licking
Q: I have a two and half year old shih-izu. she licks herself all the time. we have tried medicated shampoos and creams. but nothing seems to work. do you have any suggestions on what to do? she doen't have fleas. she is an inside dog.
A: Likely has allergies either inhalent or food allergies. could try a natural hypoallergenic diet like california natural by natura, a lamb and rice based food. antihistamines sometimes help like benadryl at a dose of 1 mg per pound of body weight twice daily. also could ask about allergy testing at your vet
Shop for: antihistamine

Rid fleas from cats
Q: I would like to know what is the best product to kill fleas&eggs on my cats. also one of my cats had babies 2 wks. ago the babies are full of fleas, what can i do? are they too young for a bath? please help! thank-you.
A: Only product i would use on babies now would be avon skin so soft by diluting 1.5 ounces in 1/2 gallon of water and applyling it as leave on rinse. greasy but effective. for older cats, front line plus or advantage from 1800petmeds is fine
Shop for: 1800petmeds, advantage

What product should i use?
Q: I have a chihuahua, approx. 4 lb. i have used advantage in the past but it is no longer working to keep the fleas at bay. i switched to frontline at the recommendation of my local pet store. it helped but again did not keep her flea-free. what product should i use? i live in florida and there is a large flea population in my neighborhood...lots of dogs and cats.
A: I live in florida too and i find the frontline plus (not the topspot which is available in pet stores) is quite effective. you will need to combine this with treatments of both the indoor and outdoor environments.
Shop for: frontline, advantage, frontline plus

Cat scratching
Q: I have a 6 yr.old cat who just recently began going outside after we moved into our house.he began to scratch a couple of weeks ago and i figured it was fleas.i applied hartz spot medication to the back of his neck and for 2 weeks it seems to have no effect.i also have not seen any signs of fleas or ticks. could this be allergies and if so is there a medication i can try?
A: Can be allergies or other skin parasite. vet can sort out. you can try antihistamine such as chlorphenirmine at dose of 2 mg twice daily in addition to derm caps from 1800petmeds which can sometimes help long term
Shop for: antihistamine, 1800petmeds, tick

Frontline recommendation
Q: Frontline does not work well for my dog because the pest must bite in order to act. once the pest has bitten, it's too little too late because the bite itself causes so irritation to his skin that he sometimes needs to be treated for that. what then would be the recommendation?
A: Actually frontline does not require the flea to bite to work. the active ingredient is in the oils in the coat. simply coming in contact with the fur should kill the flea or tick.
Shop for: frontline, tick

Heartworm plus flea preventative
Q: Is sentinel an effective product, compared to using fontline and interceptor?
A: Yes.
Shop for: interceptor, sentinel
