Trouble walking/pain when touched
Q: My 2 1/2 year old desert lynx cat has began having severe pain and trouble walking. he lies around all the time when he used to be very active, he has almost completely stopped eating, if you touch him or try to pick him up he meows as if he is in excruating pain, now he has begun to limp when walking. i have taken him to the vet and the vet believes he is constipated. he wormed him and told me to give him 2 dropfuls each of amoxi drop and hi-vite drops until empty. he seems to be worsening. i am afraid my cat may have polio or lukemia, could you give me advice as to what i should do now. i am afraid my cat may be dying and i don't know what to do.
A: He should have complete workup at vet including felv/fiv blood test as well as complete cbc/chemistry, x rays and ultrasound if needed. need diagnosis first before i can advise. sounds like your vet is treating symptomatically at this point without diagnosis

Which one is best
Q: My newfy is 155lbs and i need to know which is better for flea and tick control and because of his weight are there changes in application directions. i like the idea of mosquito control too but fleas and ticks are most inportant. thank you
A: Then i would go with advantix which is user friendly and works and all. check with 1800petmeds pharmacist to place your order and dose question
Shop for: tick, 1800petmeds, advantix

Avantage
Q: I used avantage on my dogs and did get remove some but no all. and now they are back just as bad as before and it has only been 2 weeks. is frontline better?
A: With any product applied directly to the pet, please remember that the fleas must get on the pet, feed on and/or walk through the hair of the pet to become contaminated with the insecticide. they will then jump off the pet and die in the grass or carpet. it is perfectly normal to see live fleas on a pet immediately after spraying, shampooing, dipping, etc. it has to happen for the products to be effective. many times this is confused with the products not working.
Shop for: frontline

Continue frontline or get advantage?
Q: Molly is a medium sized dog (60 lbs.) that has been on frontline for 2 years. the last box i got (containing 3 applications) seemed to not work as well as the previous. should i switch over to advantage? i was planning on getting her dipped before applying a flea treatment, but i'm not sure if i should switch brands.
A: You are probably experiencing a heavy flea year. remember the frontline and advantage will kill the fleas given a reasonable period of time. they are not repellants.
Shop for: advantage, frontline

Heartworm medicine given once?
Q: I have heard that there is a heartworm medicine that is given once per season instead of the pills. we have a 4 month old lab female, and she is our first dog. can you tell me what this is, and what the benefits are of this vs. pills? thank you!
A: The once every six months product is given by injection and the oral products can also be effective against intestinal worms and with one, fleas.
