Poisoning from flea medicationQ: My lab ingested a small amount of the cat's flea medication. what should we do, other than watch her behavior? thanks. A: That is actually all you can do. take to vet if any digestive signs, excess drooling or change in neurologic status
What product should i use?Q: I have a chihuahua, approx. 4 lb. i have used advantage in the past but it is no longer working to keep the fleas at bay. i switched to frontline at the recommendation of my local pet store. it helped but again did not keep her flea-free. what product should i use? i live in florida and there is a large flea population in my neighborhood...lots of dogs and cats. A: I live in florida too and i find the frontline plus (not the topspot which is available in pet stores) is quite effective. you will need to combine this with treatments of both the indoor and outdoor environments.
Shop for: frontline, advantage, frontline plus
Fleas on humansQ: I read the question someone else asked and your treatment. i think they are in my daughter`s hair and a simple shower is not the trick. i did a rid x treatment on her. is it ok to try flea shampoo? some are telling me they are lice but i have researched both and i think they are fleas. A: I would not recommend dog products on humans. i would see a human dermatologist for best treatment as well as definitive diagnosis. fleas do not live on people especially after bathing them off. at least the fleas that our dogs and cats get
Which is best for jimQ: Jim is a 5 year old, healthy, male dog, 120 lb. black & tan with some great dane. he is an outdoors mountain dog as we live in the appalachian mountains. we would like to give him good protection against deep back woods insects. where we live, we have a heavy population of ticks, some fleas and mosquitoes for sure. i heard on a vet public radio program that revolutions was his preference as it seemed to be effective on fleas, ticks and heartworm disease prevention. however, when i looked at the side effects of this product (on pet meds web site) it didn't look very harmless or healthy for the the dog. our property also contains a stream that he frequents and it seems he can be wet at time he chooses. we want to do whatever is best for jim but we do not want to compromise his health or make him vulnerable to sickness or disease while trying to help him with outside insects and parasite prevention. what product or combination of products do you recommend ( oral, topical or collar) for a dog his size in the outdoor environment he lives in? A: I think best and safest product for prevention you seek is advantix which you can get from 1800petmeds Shop for: tick, 1800petmeds, advantix
Frontline plus or top spotQ: What is the advantage in using frontline plus over top spot? my dog is a cairn terrier mix. we spend time at the doggie park, at the beach and in the yard, and even with top spot, fleas persist. she seems to need some heavy duty "bug" contol. do you have another recommendation? thanks. A: The top spot gives you great flea protection. the "plus" adds a defense against ticks.
