Which is best for jim
Q: Jim is a 5 year old, healthy, male dog, 120 lb. black & tan with some great dane. he is an outdoors mountain dog as we live in the appalachian mountains. we would like to give him good protection against deep back woods insects. where we live, we have a heavy population of ticks, some fleas and mosquitoes for sure. i heard on a vet public radio program that revolutions was his preference as it seemed to be effective on fleas, ticks and heartworm disease prevention. however, when i looked at the side effects of this product (on pet meds web site) it didn't look very harmless or healthy for the the dog. our property also contains a stream that he frequents and it seems he can be wet at time he chooses. we want to do whatever is best for jim but we do not want to compromise his health or make him vulnerable to sickness or disease while trying to help him with outside insects and parasite prevention. what product or combination of products do you recommend ( oral, topical or collar) for a dog his size in the outdoor environment he lives in?
A: I think best and safest product for prevention you seek is advantix which you can get from 1800petmeds
Shop for: tick, 1800petmeds, advantix

Scratching and biting
Q: I have a 6yr old yellow lab that is scratching and biting himself that is causing rashes and hotspots. is there a spray or medicine that we can give him. thank you
A: Also known as acute moist dermatitis, hot spots are usually a disease of dogs with long hair or those with dense undercoats. it is often caused by a local allergic reaction to a specific antigen. insect bites, especially from fleas, are often found to be the cause.|the first step in treating hot spots is clipping the hair over and surrounding the lesion. this allows air to get into the inflamed tissue and makes it easier to treat. the surface of the lesion is then cleaned with a non-irritating solution such as dilute nolvasan solution. to help the lesion heal desiccating powders such as burows solution (domeboro powder and water) are often then applied.

Ear infection medication
Q: I have a female chow mix, she constantly has ear infections and the vet gives me drops to put in her ears. it is nearly impossible to get the drops into her ears, she really puts up a fight. is there a pill i can give her instead?
A: Unfortunately most dogs with ear infections do need topical treatment. sometimes i will use low dose cortisone therapy to help reduce inflammation in ear which allows owner easier timeof medicating them. dogs with chronic ear issues should have allergy workup at vet or problem will keep reoccurring

Need info
Q: I have a 95lbs chocolate lab and i treated him with frontline three weeks ago and now he still has fleas and he's broke out with little red pumps and i need to know what to do for him and how do you get fleas out of furniture and house and can a human get fleas from a dog or cat?
A: Fleas only bite us temporarily but dont live on our skin. i would treat house with good house treatment like fleabusters which you can find on line. also consider try a few doses of oral capstar for quick kill of adult fleas and using oral program for flea control from 1800petmeds
Shop for: 1800petmeds, capstar, frontline

Puppy questions
Q: We recently rescued an abandond puppy from the railroad tracks near our home and i recently found tiny white moving things in his stool and i would like to know if he got this from the bad flea infestation from his couple days being tied up and if it is possible to be spead to us and to our cats?
A: Most likely did get harmless tapeworms from flea infestation. not much of any risk to you and not that contagious for cats but keep eye on their stools for similar things. can try 1800petmeds tapeworm medicine or prescription droncit or cestex to treat
Shop for: 1800petmeds, cestex, droncit
